Explore Harumi Wharf Park: A Seaside Gem in Central Tokyo

Harumi Wharf Park (Harumi Futo Koen) is a peaceful and modern public park located in Harumi, Chuo Ward. The park is situated in the area that once hosted the Athletes’ Village during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (held in 2021). It offers breathtaking views of Tokyo Bay and is a great spot to relax, walk, or enjoy seaside leisure activities.

Highlights of the Park

The park features a large open lawn area, children’s playground equipment, and plenty of seating areas with views of the water. Whether you’re visiting as a family, a couple, or solo, it’s a refreshing spot away from the bustle of central Tokyo.

One of the most appealing aspects is the calm, wide-open view of Tokyo Bay. During my visit, I saw two Japan Coast Guard ships docked right in front of the park—an impressive sight that adds to the park’s unique charm.

Modern Facilities On-Site

Adjacent to the main plaza, there’s a multi-purpose complex. This facility includes:

  • A casual café perfect for a light snack or drink
  • A BBQ Grill Garden where you can enjoy hands-free barbecuing
  • Private rental rooms and co-working spaces, great for remote work or small group gatherings

These facilities make Harumi Wharf Park not just a green space, but a convenient destination where you can spend several relaxed hours.

Access to Harumi Wharf Park

The park is located about a 25-minute walk from Kachidoki Station on the Toei Oedo Line. The walk takes you through a modern area with new high-rise apartment complexes and offices—many of which were developed for the Olympic Games. The surroundings are clean, organized, and still feel brand new.

Alternatively, you can take a local bus from Kachidoki or other nearby areas. Buses offer easier access, especially if you’re traveling with children or during hot or rainy weather.

Final Thoughts

I visited on a weekday afternoon, just after the rain had stopped. It was peaceful, and the fresh air and open space felt rejuvenating. Harumi Wharf Park is an underrated destination perfect for those looking to explore a newer, quieter side of Tokyo by the bay.
